According to the historian A. P. M. Wright, Slate Hall Farm was originally part of the Oakington estate of Queens’ College Cambridge, previously the manor of Crowland Abbey. The Queens’ College farm covered 485 acres following the 1834 Enclosure Act, but in 1860 the southern part (232) acres was split off to be farmed from the new Slate Hall Farm. The College subsequently sold Slate Hall Farm to Chivers Ltd in 1924, who later sold it to W. J. Cowell in 1959.
