Garden cottage was probably built in the 1930s, based on a survey. Records exist of the land on which it sits being conveyed from J.H.H. Linton and others to W.D. Womersley in 1936 along with the rest of Westwick Hall, although the house itself is not shown on the accompanying plan (see below). The house was later transferred to R.M. Burdett, again of Westwick Hall, in 1955. It was recorded as still belonging to the hall in 1973.
