Mr Harry Wilson’s workshop, where 29 Water Lane is now. The building on the left is the Old Post Office (now 27 Water Lane) and the building in the centre (behind the shed with the wood stacked against it) is the Butcher’s Arms public house (now 33 Water Lane).

RW recalls that Mr Wilson lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Mitchell. The work he carried out as a carpenter was of a high standard … [He related] that there were floods in the village when he was nine years old, this would have been in about 1875. During the floods he used a pig trough (probably wooden) as a canoe and paddled about on the flooded roads.
